I received an advance review copy for free from Booksirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Alice Montgomery's life seems to be stuck in the same place it has been for the past 5 years. Despite her hard earned English degree, Alice still works in her mothers book shop. She has also been secretly in love with the same man since uni. Her best friend Aaron.

Aaron Blake spends his life partying and going from relationship to relationship keeping to a strict 3 month limit. He wants to focus on his legal career and has no intention of settling down.

That is, until Aaron gets his dream job with a prestigious law firm. The firm values its family image and is looking for someone who fits with this. Aaron, feeling under pressure and in need of a fake girlfriend, tells them he has a girlfriend called Alice, thinking this will be a good, safe option.

Alice soon finds herself in a fake relationship with the man she been pining after for 5 years.

As their charade moves forward Aaron starts to notice feelings for Alice he hasn't noticed before. Maybe Alice wasn't the safe option after all.

What I liked about this book
  • Alice and Aaron's character development is well written. Both characters grow considerably as the book goes on. They both have barriers in there life which they need to overcome e.g. anxiety, grief.
  • The romance is interesting and I enjoyed the fake dating/friends to lovers tropes.
  • The story is told from both Alice and Aaron's perspectives.
  • There are some steamy scenes but not to the point where it eclipses the story.
What I didn't like
  • In order for Aaron to notice her, Alice had to completely change her appearance.

I ended up completely sucked into this book. I was routing for Alice the entire time and found her to be quite relatable. The Alice Equation is a fun, light read which will appeal to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.

4 Stars
