Synopsis

How far would you go to avoid your Destiny?

What depth would you travel to change your Fate?

How much would you risk before surrendering to the Chosen path?

Faria Agostonna, heir to the Queendom of Anestra, is tired of hearing about the Fates. That she must follow her Destiny. That it is already Chosen for her. Knowing she needs to be life-bonded in an archaic Elven ceremony makes it even worse. But when a darkness invades her land and threatens her people’s existence, Faria must figure out what sacrifices will need to be made and how far she will have to go to choose what is right for her people, even if it means ignoring the needs of her heart.

Nellie, a teenaged shapeshifter banished from Earth, spent years living in Anestra disguised as a human. After whisperings of a warlock rebellion begin to surface, Nellie is recruited by Queen Amira to do whatever it takes to protect Faria – no matter the cost. Grappling with the risk of revealing her true nature, Nellie must come to terms with the depths she will travel to prevent the Final Battle and whether she has what it takes to protect her best friend, even if it means revealing the truth of her deception.

Spurred by their rebellious nature, both girls discover the truth of a lost prophecy, face the betrayal of those closest to them, and discover how many pieces of themselves they are willing to surrender to the dark magic that calls to them to save not only their home but all connected to it.

The Polly Principle by Davina Stone

I received an advance review copy for free from Booksirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Polly Fletcher spends all of her spare time setting up her friends but when it comes to herself, she has no intention of settling down. Her focus is on her job as a social worker, and when she’s off the clock, having a good time with whoever she wants.

When she is at her friends wedding and meets a handsome stranger, all she is looking for is one night of fun.

With a back pack full of his belongings and his Ducati motorbike, Solo Jakoby is trying to put distance between himself and his life back in Sydney. He has a job to do and some memories he would like to forget, even if he is attracted to the curvaceous beauty he spent a night with.

The next time Polly and Solo meet it is under very different circumstances. How will they handle being forced together everyday with the chemistry that simmers between them?

As they learn more about each other will their attraction become deeper and become something that may challenge Polly's principle of never giving away her heart?

What I liked about this book

  • The Laws of Love series has a great group of characters, but my favourite is by far Carts. (Who will be the main character in the next instalment of the series).
  • Polly and Solos relationship is by no means instant love. It has its issues and complexities which make it believable.
  • I found both books in this series to be really quite funny.
  • There is a lot of focus on mental health, in particular, PTSD.
This is the second part of the laws of love series. I am a big fan of this series but The Polly Principle is the best of the series so far. I’m looking forward to the next book where Carts will finally have his day.

I received an advance review copy for free from Booksirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

When Shasa Daniels is told that the affordable rental that she shares with her daughter is about to be sold, she is heartbroken.

She soon discovers the land is to be purchased by hot shot developer Mac McCarthy. His intent is to bulldoze her beloved villa to make way for flashy luxury condos.

Determined not to go down with out a fight Shasa and her friends band together to put in an opposing bid in order to build community housing on the land.

Mac has put everything on the line for this deal. It will either make or break his career. Shasa is the only thing in his way. He must not let his growing attraction to her distract from the end goal.

The more Shasa learns about Mac the more conflicted she feels. Who will win the battle between love and real estate.

What I liked about this book

  • The enemies to lovers trope is one of my favourites
  • The real estate angle was interesting
  • I liked the community vibe throughout the story
  • Shasa is a single mother - I liked that Mac made an effort with her daughter as well as Shasa
What I didn't like
  • The romance between Shasa and Mac was cute but I was looking for a bit more from their relationship.
Nest or Invest is a cute enemies to lovers romance that will appeal to lovers of contemporary romance.
