I received an advance review copy for free from Booksirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

After a year of living at the beck and call of a vampire, being tortured and bitten, Arianna Ward has resigned herself to a life of misery. Life could be about to get worse as her current master prepares to sell her to a new one.

Arianna's new master, Ren, is unlike anyone she's ever met. Instead of the poor treatment she is used to Ren offers Arianna her freedom in exchange for the completion of one task. In order to complete this task, Ren will provide her with everything she needs, including powers. But if she completes the task and is offered her freedom will she accept it, or will she be tempted to stay?

What I liked about this book
  • I found the way that the vampires are portrayed really interesting. They are classic vampire's. Cruel creatures who prey on humans, not an Edward Cullen in sight. Their hierarchy and the story of their origin has been well thought out and clearly established.
  • The magic that Ren and Arianna are able to use is imaginative and complex.
  • The story flows at a fast pace allowing the reader to be consistently engaged from start to finish.
  • Arianna and Ren's characters are both strong and interesting. Arianna has been through hell and still manages to keep her feisty personality. Ren has his eyes set on his goal, but he is also understanding and willing to learn. The relationship between the two is well written. Although the time scale that the story covers is small, Ella manages to make their relationship understandable.
Up until now I have read all of the books Ella M Lee has had published, and I can honestly say that this is my favourite so far. I am excited to see what the next instalment of this series will bring. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy books or paranormal romance.

Thank you to Kate Rock Book Tours and the author for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Esther Anderson lives a simple life on the isolated Bruny Island where her father is the lighthouse keeper. It is what she has always known, but she has always dreamed of more.

When an exotic stranger is washed ashore near her home, Esther is drawn towards him. Esther and Luca's love affair is short lived as they are ripped apart by forces outside of their control.

Soon after, disaster strikes and Esther and her family are forced to forge a new life off the island. Survival is now her main focus, though Esther wont give up on Luca, regardless of the obstacles in their way.

What I liked about this book

  • The 1950s setting - the story incorporates some historical events which happened around this time, including the queens coronation tour of Australia
  • Lovegrove does not shy away from the social and domestic issues that were prominent in the 1950s.
  • This is a quick read and the writing style is coherent and easy to follow.
  • Esther is the centre focus for the most part, though there are a few occasions where the perspective shifts to Luca. This helps the reader to gather a clearer picture of their relationship.
What I didn't like
  • The romance takes off a bit quickly for my tastes. However, it is understandable in this setting due to the time period. Especially taking into consideration Esther's secluded life prior to meeting Luca.
Keeper of the Light tells a tale of love overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance.
